Join us for a Memorial Day Murph!

05.14.2018

Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy gave his life for our country fighting in Afghanistan in 2005. In his memory, it is a tradition of CrossFit organizations across the country to complete his favorite workout on Memorial Day. Formerly known as the “Body Armour” workout, Michael’s favorite WOD has since been renamed The “Murph.”

The “Murph” Challenge is certainly a tough workout, yet arguably the most rewarding of the year. Participants must begin by running one mile, then they will complete 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups and 300 squats, in any amount and order that they desire. To finish the challenge, athletes must run another mile.

Sound like a lot of work? To put it in perspective, consider how easy this workout is compared to the effort our soldiers put in to sacrifice for our country on a daily basis. Although it is difficult, the Nexus Fitness community will be beside you to cheer you on the whole way.

The Murph can be completed as listed, scaled individually or done in pairs. This workout can be completed by anyone, no matter if you prefer Xcel, CrossFit or a mix of both! We will also offer modifications to the exercises to fit your needs.

You do not have to be a member to participate! This workout is free for all members and non-members. Childcare will be offered during the workout, so bring the whole family out to this fun celebration.

If you’re looking to celebrate Memorial Day with a party, don’t worry because we have that, too! Members can stick around after the challenge to share a drink with the Nexus community.

We can’t wait to spend Memorial Day honoring those who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom. Come kick-off the holiday with us, and we promise you’ll leave feeling fulfilled!
