Member Highlight: Ben Oswalt
At Nexus, our view of fitness is about more than just setting new PRs and toning muscle groups. It’s not just a place to work out. It’s a place where you can push yourself to be better. Yes, better physically, but so that you feel better, increase in confidence, can encourage others and even function more effectively through your day to day, possibly even through your profession!
Meet one of our members, Ben Oswalt, who displays how fitness can reach beyond the gym!
Ben Oswalt is from Amory, Mississippi. He and his wife, Megan, moved to the Birmingham area last November from Starkville, Mississippi. Ben is a police officer for the City of Hoover. Before working for the City of Hoover, he worked for the Starkville Police Department for three years. You can find Ben on the CrossFit side of Nexus attending the 4:00 p.m. class three times a week (all thanks to his lovely wife)!
Q: How did you first hear about Nexus Fitness?
“My wife talked me into taking one of the free classes after her coworkers coerced her into taking a class. I just went to amuse her, but now it has become a priority for me and something I look forward to each week.”
Q: Have you seen any benefits in your life from working at Nexus Fitness?
“Before I started working out at Nexus, working out felt more like a chore, and now I’m excited to go work out. Working out at Nexus is extremely helpful for my job. In my career, there are times when situations can escalate quickly. Not too long ago, someone decided to run from one of my fellow officers. Luckily, I was in the area, so I located him and chased him down. I never know what each day will hold, but since I’ve been on my fitness journey with Nexus, I am confident that I can handle whatever is thrown at me.”
Q: How would you describe the workouts and community at Nexus?
“Ever since I was young, I have been a part of a team for my workouts. From baseball and football to the police academy, it has always been a group effort. Everyone is working towards the same goal, motivating each other along the way. With Nexus, I get that same sense of community.”
Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to join Nexus?
“DO IT! You’ll never regret a great workout with great people.”
